Duplicate content, tags and categories
Last night when i did a site:daparky.com in Google, i found out that Google were listing my tags that i set when i started the blog, but removed the tags immediately when i found out about duplicate content issues. So howcome they have listed them now and not then?
I had a quick look at my plugins and looked at the options for All in One SEO Pack. I realised that ‘Use noindex for Tag Archives’ was unticked, so therefore tag archives were being indexed. I quickly panicked and unticked this and ticked ‘Use noindex for Categories’ because i had originally chosen categories over tags. I didn’t check over all the options when i should have done in the first place, so let that be a lesson to you and me.
It may take a few days before the new options kick in, but now i can start using tags for my blog post. I’m only going to use tags on important blog post because the likes of technorati etc like tags and technorati is a ping service rather than a bot, so the tags wouldn’t get dropped.
I had wondered why my categories weren’t getting indexed by Google, and now i’ve found out why, i can flip things around and drop tags and index my categories.
